Stray But Looking, the name a play on single but looking, began as a hobby business in 2015 with this simple design that we began printing on t-shirts. Our goal was to sell t's and make a little money for dog rescue organizations. We also began blogging about people engaged in the work of rescuing dogs hoping that readers would support featured rescue groups.
As time passed this image evolved as we began our Stray Toon with "Bergh", the rescue dog named in honor of the founder of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Henry Bergh.
Stray But Looking is derived from the phrase "single but looking". My goal at the beginning was to bring attention to those who rescue stray dogs through my blog. I hoped that blogging would lead to increased donations to dog rescue groups I featured. Along with my blog I also began selling t-shirts to raise funds.
In July of 2018 I visited and volunteered with Cintia Salazar Juarez, devoted rescuer of animals in Merlo, Buenos Aires. I joined in rescues as well as assisted in daily chores such as cleaning kennels, feeding dogs, rearranging shelter infrastructure, even feeding the rescue pig. Before my ten day adventure was up I knew I needed to do more to support Cintia's efforts and that is how I came to Stray Cards.
