Adopets: Saving time, lives and money – Adopets: Salvando vidas, y ahorrando dinero y tiempo

Every animal is important. My posts over the last year have focused on individual rescue groups saving dogs and horses from horrific situations and certain death. The need is overwhelming.

When you look at the New York Bully Crew’s Instagram feed you will see the group looking for donations for individual dogs that need surgery. If you check out Refugio Zoobrevivientes on Facebook you will see conversations between the rescue group and individuals contacting the group about dogs in need. Rescue is a constant hustle. First responders for animals in need do not get a break, as scooping up an animal from the street or out of rubbish pile is just the beginning of the journey. Next is a juggling act, stealing from Peter to pay Paul to cover rent, medical costs, food and a multitude of other necessities, all while heading out the door to another animal in a desperate situation.

Of course finding suitable families to care for rescued souls is also a top priority. The less time a dog or other animal spends in the shelter, the more money the shelter has to allocate to other areas. Not to mention that placing an animal with a family as soon as possible benefits the rescue’s mental and physical health.

Okay, so maybe the scene depicting a twenty page application is an exaggeration, but for Artur Sosa, founder of Adopets, the tremendous inefficiencies in the adoption system(s) became glaringly apparent when it took him THREE MONTHS to adopt his dog Frisco (Vanni, 2016). How in the world could an adoption take so long and how is such a long adoption process affecting the thousands of other dogs, cats, and other animals in need of families?
